Bandai Namco’s hobby business subsidiary, Bandai Spirits has announced the Gundam Side-F limited release of the MSN-03-2 Psycho Doga appearing in the High Grade Universal Century line of Gundam model kits.
The MSN-03-2 Psycho Doga was originally designed by mechanical designer Yutaka Izubuchi for the 1988 Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack – Beltorchika’s Children novel, but only the upper body was seen in the June 1988 issue of Newtype magazine. From 2014 to 2018, Kadokawa Shoten published a manga adaptation of the novel, spanning seven volumes. The manga was helmed by Uroaki Sabishi and mechanical designer Takayuki Yanase, with Yanase completing Izubuchi’s original Psycho Doga into a full design for the manga.
Penned by Yoshiyuki Tomino, Beltorchika’s Children serves as an alternate retelling of the 1988 Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack film, depicting the final bout between Earth Federation Ace pilot Amuro Ray and Neo Zeon leader Char Aznable. The story features key differences such as different characters, names, mobile suits, and new plot elements. Beltorchika Irma, from Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, returns as Amuro’s lover and discovers she’s pregnant with his child. Amuro and Char pilot more advanced versions of the Nu Gundam and the Sazabi: the RX-93-ν2 Hi-Nu Gundam and MSN-04-II Nightingale. MSN-03-2 Psycho Doga replaces the MSN-03 Jagd Doga from the original anime film and is piloted by Glarv Guss.
