Moving Gundam Statue Plays Rock-Paper-Scissors with Fans for Last Day of Golden Week

For the last day of Golden Week, Children’s Day, the  life-sized moving RX-78F00 Gundam statue played rock-paper-scissors with visitors at Gundam Factory Yokohama. The number of people who participated were around 500 and those that won the challenge were allowed to take commemorative photos in an area that is normally off-limits to visitors.

Other major events at Gundam Factory Yokohama during Golden Week included a rerun of the “Minovsky Flight Operation Experiment,” where the RX-78F00 Gundam performed movements inspired the RX-105 Xi Gundam with accompanying lights and music from the hit Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash film, and a GUND-ARM Inc., Open Cafe food truck, inspired by Mobile Suit Gundam the Witch from Mercury.

In February, Gundam Factory Yokohama announced they would be extending their operations with the moving RX-78F00 Gundam statue another  year until March 31, 2024. This marks the second extension granted to the moving Gundam attraction, which was to initially shutter March 31, 2022.

GFY stated on their official website, “After consulting with Yokohama City and concerned parties, the decision on the extension was made owing to the enthusiastic requests of many people who couldn’t visit the facility due to the continued impact of COVID-19 in 2022.”
