Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom Cinema Concert Comes to Yokohama



The Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom Cinema Concert has been announced to be held at the Kanagawa Pacifico Yokohama National Hall on July 6th (Saturday).

The concert will see the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Hirofumi Kurita, performing the powerful musical score from the SEED Freedom film while keeping the dialogue and sound effects intact. Toshihiko Sahashi, who was in charge of the music in the film, is orchestrating the concert.

In addition, there will be talks by director Mitsuo Fukuda and Sahashi, as well as orchestral live performances by T.M.Revolution/Takanori Nishikawa and Rie Tanaka, who voices heroine Lacus Clyne in the Gundam SEED series.

Ticket prices start at 11,000 yen for A Seats and 12,000 yen for S Seats. The matinee opens its doors at 11:30 JST and the concert starts at 12:30 JST, while the evening performance opens doors at 16:30 JST and the concert following at 17:30 JST.

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED will end its domestic Japanese theatrical run on May 23, the 17th week of its release. The film have theatrical screenings in the US and Canada on Tuesday May 7, 2024 for the Japanese language version and May 8, 2024 for the English dubbed version in the US, via Fathom Events. SEED Freedom has been announced to release to 30 countries across Europe.

On its third weekend, the film became the highest grossing Gundam film dethroning the 1982 Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in Space, which held the franchise box office record for forty-two years with 2.3 billion yen, while the 2021 Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash is the third highest performing franchise film at 2.23 billion yen.

As of April 30, the film has amassed a cumulative total of 4,523,412,680 yen and selling 2,697,025 tickets.

The tagline of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom is “The wings of freedom to seize the future”. The film is directed by Mitsuo Fukuda, featuring a script by Fukuda, Chiaki Morosawa, and Ryu Goto. Hisashi Hirai returns for character design, while the mechanical design team includes Kunio Okawara, Kimitoshi Yamane, Kazutaka Miyatake, Junichi Akutsu, Manabu Shintani, Zenseava, Takuya Io, and Hiroyuki Taiga. Satoshi Shigeta returns as mechanical animation director. Toshihiko Sahashi is the composer for the film’s music, and the theme song “FREEDOM” is performed by Takanori Nishikawa with Tetsuya Komuro.

Story

In C.E.75, the fighting still continues.

There are independence movements, and aggression by Blue Cosmos… In order to calm the situation, a global peace monitoring agency called COMPASS is established, with Lacus as its first president. As members of COMPASS, Kira and his comrades intervene into various regional battles. Then a newly established nation called Foundation proposes a joint operation against a Blue Cosmos stronghold.
