Published by TIME, Yamane Kimitoshi Monograph Sunrise Edition is an art collection featuring the mechanical designs of celebrated designer Kimitoshi Yamane from his work with anime studio Sunrise.
Yamane joined Sunrise with the 1994 Mobile Fighter G Gundam. Following that, he worked on mechanical designs for numerous works, including The Vision of Escaflowne, Cowboy Bebop, Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team, Infinite Ryvius, Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin, Gundam Reconguista in G, Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash, Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan’s Island, and many others.
The book includes a diverse range of design works, including valuable cel animation and oil paintings, showcasing over 1,000 unique and innovative mecha designs.
From the Gundam series, it includes a variety of works from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, including exclusive illustrations from Hobby Japan, to Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team, Mobile Suit Gundam MS IGLOO, Gundam Reconguista in G, Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash, and Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan’s Island.
Furthermore, it includes interviews with long-time friends and fellow designers such as Yoshinori Sayama and Yutaka Izubuchi, as well as contributions from Renato Rivera Rusca offering an overseas perspective.
Yamane Kimitoshi Monograph Sunrise Edition is 384 pages and priced at 5,995 yen. The book will release October 27, 2023.
