Initially announced in October 2022 during Bandai Namco‘s “GUNDAM NEXT FUTURE” event, Bandai Namco’s hobby business subsidiary, Bandai Spirits will be releasing RGM-79 GM(Moroccan Front) appearing in the High Grade Universal Century line of Gundam model kits.
Originally designed by legendary mechanical designer Kunio Okawara, this version of the classic RGM-79 GM appears in the Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan’s Island film, designed by the renowned Hajime Katoki. This Moroccan variant of the GM is seen briefly in the anime film, engaging in combat with the Principality of Zeon’s Southern Cross in Casablanca, Morocco.
Cucuruz Doan’s Island is a recent anime film directed by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, the character designer and chief animation director of the original 1979 Mobile Suit Gundam series, as well as chief director of the 2015-2018 Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin series. The film is a remake and new perspective on the fifteenth episode of the same name from the original series. Since its release on June 3, 2022, the film has grossed 1.08 billion yen with 550,000 attendees.
The RGM-79-GM(Moroccan Front)‘s distinctive body shape and coloring are faithfully reproduced with molded colors and color seperation. Through new sculpting, the model kit faithfully reproduces the different head, chest, and shoulder shapes from the GM(piloted by Sleggar) down to the smallest detail.
