Gundam Battle Operation 2 Wins PlayStation Partner Award 2 Years in a Row

Since 1995, the PlayStation Partner Awards are presented to commercially successful Japanese and Asian games released on the PlayStation. Sony Interactive Entertainment recently announced winners of their 2021 event, honoring titles released from October 2020 to September 2021.

Bandai Namco Entertainment’s Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 2 received its second consecutive Partner Award. Beginning in 2012, Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 2 is the third installment in the Gundam Battle Operation game series, following Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation and Gundam: Battle Operation NEXT.

Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 2 is a free-to-play battle action game featuring over 270 mobile suits where players can enjoy realistic mecha combat on the battlefield. By February 2021, the game exceeded three million downloads.

Announced in October 2021, Bandai Namco Entertainment revealed their next installment in the series titled, Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation: Code Fairy.

Releasing to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 with the same battle system as Gundam Battle Operation 2, Code Fairy is a departure in the Gundam Battle Operation series, featuring an anime storyline. The game tells an original story surrounding the “Noisy Fairy” – a secret unit led by pilot cadet Alma Stilner and under the direct control of Kycilia Zabi of the Principality of Zeon. During the “One Year War,” the unit struggles to break through into the continent of North America which is where the game’s story picks up. Code Fairy is said to be a tale of unbreakable bonds formed in the midst of the brutality of war.

Masayoshi Tanaka(Anohana, Darling in the FRANXX) serves as character designer for the game, with Kyoshi Takigawa on mechanical designs, and Mobile Suit Gundam Narrative’s Toshikazu Yoshizawa directs the project as well as animation direction and storyboards. Popular anisong artist Maon Kurosaki performs the game’s theme songs “Fly high the ’Fairy’” and “Lights.”.
