Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom Announces US Premiere Screenings in LA and NYC



Bandai Namco Filmworks has announced Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom will have special screenings in Los Angeles and New York City on March 31, 2024.

The Los Angeles Screening Event will be held at the Regal LA Live (1000 W Olympic Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90015) and is scheduled to include a special talk show session featuring Soichiro Hoshi (Voice of Kira Yamato), Rie Tanaka (Voice of Lacus Clyne), Michael Sinterniklaas (NYAV Post Studio Owner & Dub Producer), and Stephanie Sheh (English Voice of Lacus Clyne, Casting Director, and Dub Producer). Doors are scheduled to open at 6:00PM (Pacific).

The New York City Screening Event will be held at Japan Society (333 E 47th St, Manhattan, NY 10017) and is scheduled to include a special comment video from Director Mitsuo Fukuda and a brief talk show session featuring Alyson Leigh Rosenfield (English Voice of Lunamaria). Doors are schedule to open at 3:00PM (Eastern). Both events will be screening the Japanese Language Version with English Subtitles.

Standard and Premium Tickets will be made available for the March 31st screening. The Standard ticket will include a commemorative pass, lanyard, Rising Freedom and Immortal Justice paper headbands, and special Shopper bag. The Premium Ticket will include all the Standard Ticket items plus, a commemorative art print, an illustration card, and a HG 1/144 STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM model kit

A special additional screening only of the English Language Dubbed version will be held at Japan Society on April 1, 2024.

In the film’s sixth weekend in theaters, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom has  amassed a cumulative total of 3,707,774,060 yen and selling 2,207,227 tickets.

On its third weekend, the film became the highest grossing Gundam film dethroning the 1982 Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in Space, which held the franchise box office record for forty-two years with 2.3 billion yen, while the 2021 Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash is the third highest performing franchise film at 2.23 billion yen. 

The film premiered on January 26, debuting at #1 in the Japanese box office, surpassing competitors such as Spy × Family Code: White, Poor Things, and the live-action Golden Kamuy film.

The tagline of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom is “You are there inside me. Am I there inside you?”. The film is directed by Mitsuo Fukuda, featuring a script by Fukuda, Chiaki Morosawa, and Ryu Goto. Hisashi Hirai returns for character design, while the mechanical design team includes Kunio Okawara, Kimitoshi Yamane, Kazutaka Miyatake, Junichi Akutsu, Manabu Shintani, Zenseava, Takuya Io, and Hiroyuki Taiga. Satoshi Shigeta returns as mechanical animation director. Toshihiko Sahashi is the composer for the film’s music, and the theme song “FREEDOM” is performed by Takanori Nishikawa with Tetsuya Komuro.

Story

In C.E.75, the fighting still continues.

There are independence movements, and aggression by Blue Cosmos… In order to calm the situation, a global peace monitoring agency called COMPASS is established, with Lacus as its first president. As members of COMPASS, Kira and his comrades intervene into various regional battles. Then a newly established nation called Foundation proposes a joint operation against a Blue Cosmos stronghold.
