As Mobile Suit Gundam the Witch from Mercury Season 2 has entered its second half, a popularity poll for the mobile suits featured in the series was conducted on the “Gundam Navi App” from May 8 to May 16, 2023. With 28,220 votes for 20 candidates, a top 3 of mobile suits were chosen.
For 5094 votes, the XVX-016 Gundam Aerial was voted number one in the poll.
Designed by mechanical designer JNTHED, the XVX-016 Gundam Aerial is the primary mobile suit, piloted by protagonist Suletta Mercury in the Mobile Suit Gundam the Witch from Mercury series. The Aerial was developed by Suletta’s mother, Prospera Mercury, and her Shin Sei Development Corporation. It is equipped with a shield made up of GUND-BITs, a next-generation remote-controlled swarm weapon system.
In March, Bandai‘s President and Representative Director Masaru Kawaguchi explained “With Mobile Suit Gundam, the plastic model of the Gundam[Aerial] that played the lead role in Mobile Suit Gundam the Witch from Mercury recorded strong results. Among the HG TV series lead role Gundam versions, it had the highest initial sales in history, and it currently continues to be popular.” The Bandai Namco head continued to note how the Witch from Mercury has attracted new fans such as young people and women, generating substantial buzz.
Coming up close behind Aerial for 5,040 votes, XVX-016RN Gundam Aerial Rebuild won second place.
Designed by mechanical designer JNTHED, the XVX-016RN Gundam Aerial Rebuild is also piloted by Suletta in the Witch from Mercury series. Gundam Aerial Rebuild is the successor to the XVX-016 Gundam Aerial, renovated by the Shin Sei Development Corporation after the extensive damages it suffered in the duel between Earth House and Grassley House.
For 4,691 votes, the MD-0064 Darilbalde is the third place winner.
Designed by mainstay Gundam mechanical designer Ippei Gyoubu, the Darilbalde is a fifth-generation demonstration machine made by Jeturk Heavy Machinery, piloted by Guel Jeturk. It carries a new type of drone weapon which can operate autonomously thanks to its Decision Making Extension AI.
Mobile Suit Gundam the Witch from Mercury is directed by Kiznaiver‘s Hiroshi Kobayashi, and penned by Code Geass scribe, Ichiro Ohkouchi. The tagline of the series is “This witch…rides a Gundam”. The series began broadcast October 2, 2022 on twenty-eight of MBS and TBS TV networks on their 5pm “Nichigo” anime block, as well as simulcasted internationally. The Witch from Mercury completed its twelve episode first season in January and began Season 2 on April 9, 2023.
