Singer Takanori Nishikawa has uploaded a music video on his YouTube channel for his hit song “Freedom,” which serves as the main theme for Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom. The video features the song’s lyrics with extensive use of footage from the film.
“Freedom” is performed by Takanori Nishikawa with Tetsuya Komuro (stylized as t.komuro). Takanori Nishikawa has become synonymous with the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED series, performing multiple theme songs throughout its installments under his former stage name T.M.Revolution, such as “INVOKE,” “ignited,” “Meteor,” and “vestige”. Tetsuya Komura is a founding member of TM Network, who performed the iconic “Beyond the Time” for the 1988 Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack film.
In January, “Freedom” earned the #1 spot on Billboard Japan‘s Top 10 for Downloaded Songs, with 16,718 downloads.
Gundam SEED Freedom earned an additional 523,065,770 yen in its second weekend, bringing its total to 1,965,922,900 yen with 1,215,558 tickets sold. SEED Freedom is expected to surpass Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in Space‘s long sitting 2.3 billion yen franchise box office record.
Premiering January 26, the film debuted at #1 in the Japanese box office against competition such as Spy × Family Code: White, Poor Things, and the live-action Golden Kamuy film.
The tagline of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom is “You are there inside me. Am I there inside you?”. The film is directed by Mitsuo Fukuda, featuring a script by Fukuda, Chiaki Morosawa, and Ryu Goto. Hisashi Hirai returns for character design, while the mechanical design team includes Kunio Okawara, Kimitoshi Yamane, Kazutaka Miyatake, Junichi Akutsu, Manabu Shintani, Zenseava, Takuya Io, and Hiroyuki Taiga. Satoshi Shigeta returns as mechanical animation director. Toshihiko Sahashi is the composer for the film’s music, and the theme song “FREEDOM” is performed by Takanori Nishikawa with Tetsuya Komuro.
