Renowned composer in the fields of anime, drama and film, Hiroyuki Sawano will be a releasing a piano solo album titled scene on December 22, 2021.
Sawano has been in charge of the music for many hit anime titles, including the Gundam entries Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway’s Flash and Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn. This album is the first recording of pieces that have been performed on piano and shown to the public in Sawano’s official fan club.
In addition to “Ξ” from Hathaway’s Flash, “Mobile Suit Gundam UC Medley”, “RE: I AM MARIE” and “Into the Sky” from Gundam Unicorn the album features nineteen tracks, including the title track “scene” and pieces from Sawano’s other works.
The album will be available in two formats: Limited Edition (CD+BD) priced at 4,290 yen and Normal Edition (CD) priced at 2,640 yen. The limited edition will include a Blu-ray containing a video of Hiroyuki Sawano LIVE [emU] 2021, an event held in February 2021.

Beginning in 2010, Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn adapted the bestselling novel of the same name into a seven-part OVA(original video animation) series directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi and scripted by Yasuyuki Muto. The novel was published by Kadokawa Shoten from 2007 to 2009, penned by Harutoshi Fukui with character designs by celebrated animator Yoshikazu Yasuhiko and mechanical designs by Hajime Katoki.
First in a trilogy of anime films helmed by director Shukou Murase, Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway’s Flash or Hathaway is the official sequel to the 1988 Mobile Suit Gundam Char’s Counterattack movie. The project was announced in November 2018 to celebrate the Gundam 40th anniversary, adapting the Yoshiyuki Tomino-penned novel series of the same name. The novels were originally released from 1989 to 1990, as a follow-up to Tomino’s Char’s Counterattack: Beltorchika’s Children novel, published by Kadokawa’s Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko imprint.
Since its release on June 11, Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway’s Flash has attracted 1.07 million viewers and grossed 2.18 billion yen at the box office.
As of June 2021, producer Naohiro Ogata confirmed the second installment was in production, tentatively titled, Sun of Bright (also read as “Son”). Producer Ogata addressed there would be changes from the novel’s 2nd volume as Yoshiyuki Tomino previously expressed his reservations to Ogata about adapting it. The story is said expand on rival Gundam pilot Lane Aim’s role in the film series and focuses on Gigi Andalucia.
