Bandai Namco’s hobby business subsidiary, Bandai Spirits has announced the release of 1/44 scale Soft Vinyl Dummy Balloon figures for the RX-93 Nu Gundam and RGZ-91 Re-GZ from the Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack film.
Designed by Yutaka Izubuchi, both the RX-93 Nu Gundam and RGZ-91 Re-GZ are equipped with Dummy Launchers, allowing them to shoot dummy balloons. Dummy balloons are an Universal Century technology taking advantage of Minovsky Particle radar interference, by creating balloon copies of various objects from asteroids, mobile suits or even space vessels to confuse enemies.
Set fourteen years after the One Year War in U.C. 0093, Mobile Suit Gundam Char’s Counterattack serves as the final confrontation between legendary rivals Amuro Ray and Char Aznable. Char has risen to power as leader of Neo Zeon and plans an all-out assault to decimate the Earth’s population to revive the planet. Released to theaters in 1988, Char’s Counterattack grossed 1.16 billion yen at the box office.
Every detail from the Dummy Balloons as seen in the film, has been reproduced, including wrinkles and accurate chest and backpack details.
The Soft Vinyl 1/144 Dummy Balloon(Re-GZ type) and Soft Vinyl 1/144 Dummy Balloon(Nu Gundam type) are both priced at 2,200 yen with a July 16, 2022 release date. The Soft Vinyl figures will be sold at Gundam Park Fukuoka‘s Gundam Side-F in advance, then release to the official Bandai Namco Group mail order site, The Gundam Base stores, and overseas at a later date.
