Hiroko Moriguchi to Release 2nd Gundam Song Covers Album



Following the success of Hiroko Moriguchi’s Gundam Song Covers album, a sequel album has been announced by King Records. The sequel production decision was made after much positive reception and outcry for more albums from social media and across the web.

The sequel album is scheduled  to release early summer 2020, and voting for the next tracks are open from now to February 16th on the official website. The winners will be announced on the Gundam YouTube Channel.

Upon release on August 7, 2019 the album was  featured in Oricon’s album rankings for daily 2nd place, 3rd place for the week of August 19th, and 5th place for the month of August.  Gundam Song Covers was a big hit among long-time Gundam fans as well as those who hadn’t seen the series, with CD sales exceeding 100,000 copies.

Moriguchi went on to be awarded the “Planning Prize” for the album at the 61st Japan Record Awards.

Gundam Song Covers features tracks from the “Gundam Song Ranking” from the 2018 broadcast on NHK of “Announcement! All Gundam Big Vote!”, Moriguchi’s debut song “Mizu no Hoshi e Ai wo Komete”, ranked 1st out of 361 songs, and “ETERNAL WIND ~Hohoemi wa Hikaru Kaze no Naka~” ranked 3rd. To commemorate the entire range of years in the Mobile Suit Gundam 40th anniversary, Moriguchi released song covers & self covers of the “Gundam Song Best 10 as Chosen by the People”.

The album features Moriguchi collaborating with a diverse group of artists producing unique renditions of the classic Gundam songs such as:

Zeta Gundam‘s “Mizu no Hoshi e Koe wo Komete” with jazz violinist Naoko Terai, “Ai Senshi” having acoustic guitarist Kotaro Oshio, The 08th MS Team‘s “Arashi no Naka de Kagayaite” pairs Moriguchi with accordionist Saburo Tanooka,  “Freesia” from Iron-Blooded Orphans has pianist Satoru Shionoya, Gundam Wing’s “JUST COMMUNICATION” features keyboardist Ino Hidefumi, and Unicorn‘s “RE:I AM” with instrumental unit TSUKEMEN.
