Denpa Licenses Mobile Suit Gundam Char’s Counterattack: Beltorchika’s Children for English Release

American manga publisher Denpa has announced they have acquired the license to release Mobile Suit Gundam Char’s Counterattack: Beltorchika’s Children.

Adapted from the 1988 novel of the same name, the Beltorchika’s Children manga was published by Kadokawa Shoten from 2014 to 2018, spanning seven volumes. The manga was helmed by Uroaki Sabishi and Takayuki Yanase, with mobile suit design by Yutaka Izubuchi.

Based on Yoshiyuki Tomino’s rejected Mobile Suit Gundam High-Streamer script adaptation, Beltorchika’s Children serves as an alternate retelling of the 1988 Mobile Suit Gundam Char’s Counterattack film, depicting the final bout between Earth Federation Ace pilot Amuro Ray and Neo Zeon leader Char Aznable. The story features key differences such as Beltorchika Irma, from Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, returning as Amuro’s lover and pregnant with his child, as well as Amuro and Char piloting more advanced versions of the Nu Gundam and the Sazabi: the RX-93-ν2 Hi-Nu Gundam and MSN-04-II Nightingale.

The publisher stated the series will be releasing Summer 2022, available at both online and brick-and-mortar bookstores. Meanwhile, they’re currently planning the Hideki Owada-penned biographical manga The Men Who Created Gundam to release July 2021.
