Tamashii Nations Announces Next Wave of Gundam Universe Figures



Bandai Spirits premium figure brand Tamashii Nations has announced a new wave of the Gundam Universe figure line. The line of Gundam figures was launched early 2019 to bring affordable, quality six-inch figures to global consumers. The line’s main features are its “Kinetic Styling”, “Durable Construction”, and “Sharp Form”. The new wave of figures: consisting of Shining Gundam, Tallgeese II, Gundam Barbatos Lupus Rex and Gundam Aerial, will be released July 2023.

GF13-017NJ Shining Gundam, Sunrise

Designed by legendary mechanical designer Kunio Okawara, GF13-017NJ Shining Gundam is the initial mobile fighter representing Neo-Japan in the 13th Gundam Fight, piloted by protagonist Domon Kasshu in the 1994 Mobile Fighter G Gundam series.

Mobile Fighter G Gundam series depicts the first major Gundam entry not set within the franchise’s long running Universal Century timeline. Garnering a reputation for making series move in unexpected directions from Mister Ajikko and Giant Robo: The Day the Earth Stood Still, Yasuhiro Imagawa directed the series with Fuyunori Gobu, of Armored Trooper Votoms fame, on series composition.

Mangaka Kazuhiko Shimamoto(Blazing Transfer Student, Blue Blazes) was tapped for character design drafts for the series by producer Masahiko Minami, who had been a friend and classmate to Shimamoto at Osaka University of Arts. The final character designs are handled by Hiroshi Osaka(The Vision of Escaflowne) coming off Mobile Suit Victory Gundam. The mechanical design team included Hajime Katoki, Kimitoshi Yamane, and veteran Kunio Okawara.

Story

Set within the Future Century timeline, to escape the war weary Earth, the world’s nations migrated into outer space to establish space colonies. To maintain peace between these new colony nations, they compete in a massive fighting tournament with a representative Gundam and pilot, the victor nation is then allowed to govern space and the other colonies. The series follows Neo Japan representative Domon Kasshu, a hot-blooded, reluctant participant in the 13th Gundam Fight, searching for his brother Kyoji Kasshu, who has seemingly betrayed his family and nation.

OZ-00MS2 Tallgeese II, Sunrise

Designed by renowned mechanical designer Hajime Katoki,  the OZ-00MS2 Tallgeese II was piloted by OZ leader Treize Khushrenada in the 1995 New Mobile Report Gundam Wing series. This new second Tallgeese was built from the spare parts of the OZ-00MS Tallgeese; other than cosmetic differences, the Tallgeese II is functionally identical to the Tallgeese.

New Mobile Report Gundam Wing was directed by Masashi Ikeda then Shinji Takamatsu, and was scripted by Katsuyuki Sumizawa. The series broadcasted from 1995 to 1996 and featured character designs by Ergo Proxy and Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash director Shukou Murase, with a mechanical design team consisting of Kunio Okawara, Hajime Katoki, and Junya Ishigaki.

Story

Mankind has moved into space. Thousands of people live on giant orbiting space colonies called “Sides.” However, the Earth Government, which rules the colonies, is unjust and cruel. A group of revolutionaries build five robotic weapons called Gundams and plan to send them to Earth to begin their fight for independence. Piloted by five young men, these Gundams carry the colonists’ hopes and dreams of freedom with them as they descend to Earth to begin Operation Meteor!

ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos Lupus Rex, Sunrise

Designed by mechanical designer Naohiro Washio, the ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos Lupus Rex is piloted by protagonist Mikazuki Augus in the second season of Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans. Barbatos Lupus Rex is the final form of the Gundam Barbatos, after Barbatos Lupus. Overhauled by the Teiwaz engineers on Sansei after the brutal battle with the Mobile Armor Hashmal, the Barbatos Lupus gained the name “Rex” with its new animalistic appearance. Barbatos Lupus Rex incorporated Hashmal‘s Tail Blade.

Directed by Tatsuyuki Nagai and scripted by Mari Okada, Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans began airing October 2015. Michinori Chiba and Yu Ito designed the characters for the series, with a mechanical design team consisting of Naohiro Washio, Ippei Gyōbu, Kanetake Ebikawa, Kenji Teraoka, and Tamotsu Shinohara. Masaru Yokoyama provided the music composition for the series.

Story 

Set in the Post Disaster era, the series follows a group of child soldiers—Mikazuki Augus, Orga Itsuka, and several others as they are hired to protect a young aristocrat seeking to liberate the Martian colony from Earth’s rule. When the tyrannical Earth peacekeeping force Gjallarhorn threatens those involved, Mikazuki must head into battle using a Calamity War-era relic—the Gundam Barbatos.

XVX-016 Gundam Aerial, Sunrise

Designed by mechanical designer JNTHED, of Metal Gear fame, the XVX-016 Gundam Aerial is piloted by protagonist Suletta Mercury in the currently broadcasting Mobile Suit Gundam the Witch from Mercury. In the series, the Gundam Aerial is a GUND-ARM type mobile suit, equipped with a shield made up of GUND-BITS, a next generation remote-controlled swarm weapon system.

Mobile Suit Gundam the Witch from Mercury is directed by Kiznaiver‘s Hiroshi Koyabashi, and penned by Code Geass scribe, Ichiro Ohkouchi. The tagline of the series is “This witch…rides a Gundam”. The series began broadcast October 2, 2022 on twenty-eight of MBS and TBS TV networks on their 5pm “Nichigo” anime block, as well as simulcasted internationally.
