Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom has quickly become the highest-grossing Gundam film, amassing a cumulative total of 3,485,058,910 yen and selling 2,075,752 tickets in just one month since its theatrical release. Its success was highlighted by dethroning the 1982 Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in Space, which held the franchise box office record for forty-two years with 2.3 billion yen. The film premiered on January 26, debuting at #1 in the Japanese box office, surpassing competitors such as Spy × Family Code: White, Poor Things, and the live-action Golden Kamuy film.
Commenting on the box office success of the film in a repost on his X account, director Mitsuo Fukuda thanked moviegoers for supporting the film and teased he was working on storyboards, though no future Gundam SEED anime project has been officially decided as of yet.
In a prior stage greeting for SEED Freedom, director Fukuda teased a planned “Freedom Hijacking Incident” OVA project taking place before the events of the film that wasn’t greenlit for production.
動員数も200万人超えて、皆さんが何度も何度も見てくれたことに本当に感謝です。特典もしばらくは続くと聞いてますし、これからも宜しくです。ちなみに私は今、絵コンテを書いてます。まだ何も決まってませんけど。 https://t.co/RG60E9JIXm
