Not too long after the cancellation of the Gundam Recoguista in G II: Bellri’s Fierce Charge event screenings, it has been officially announced the Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway fan event “Gundam Fan Gathering- Hathaway’s Flash Heirs to Gundam-” will also be cancelled due to concerns over the spread of the Coronavirus(COVID-19) in Japan. This follows a string of many large-scale event cancellations or postponements across the island nation.
The event was scheduled for Tuesday evening, March 24 to be held at Zepp DiverCity in Tokyo. It would feature the main cast and theme song announcements for the much anticipated Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway film, as well as a new video for the film and an appearance from Amuro Ray actor Toru Furuya. Refunds for the event will be issued to those who had already purchased tickets. Fortunately contents of the event will be recorded and released at a date not yet determined.
Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway is the first installment in the film trilogy adaptation of the 1989 Yoshiyuki Tomino-penned novel series, Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway’s Flash. The film is set to release to theaters in Japan July 23.
Set in U.C. 0105, Hathaway’s Flash is the second entry in Sunrise’s UC NexT 0100 Project following Mobile Suit Gundam Narrative. Twelve years after the Second Neo Zeon War, the peace on Earth and its colonies is disrupted by “Mafty”, a terrorist organization bent on preventing the Earth Federation from privatizing the Earth to the privileged. Leading Mafty is Hathaway Noa, son of celebrated Federation Captain Bright Noa and pilot of the experimental RX-105 Ξ Gundam.
Genocidal Organ’s Shukou Murase is directing the film trilogy, with scripts by Yasuyuki Mutou. Pablo Uchida, Shigeki Kuhara, and Naoyuki Onda serve as character designers, and Hiroyuki Sawano returns as music composer. The films’ mechanical design team consists of Hajime Katoki, Kimitoshi Yamane, Nobuhiko Genba, and Seiichi Nakatani.
