Gundam Reconguista in G Event Screenings Cancelled Due to Coronavirus



Gundam creator Yoshiyuki Tomino’s second entry to his Gundam Reconguista in G  pentalogy, Bellri’s Fierce Charge opened to Japanese theaters last Friday on February 21. The official Gundam Reconguista in G website has recently announced they would be cancelling special event screenings with stage greetings due to concerns over the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Japan. Originating in Wuhan, China, internationally the virus has infected approximately 81,000 people, claiming 2,783 lives.   Japan currently has 171 confirmed cases, with only one death from the virus.

The three event screenings were scheduled for March 1 and March 4 featuring cast and staff talk shows, held at the Shinjuku Piccadilly theatre. Those who had purchased tickets will be issued refunds and further information regarding the planned event screenings will be made at a later date. The film’s regular theatrical screenings are still on schedule .

Directed and scripted by Yoshiyuki Tomino, Gundam Reconguista in G II: Bellri’s Fierce Charge will be released to Blu-ray/DVD on March 27, from RightStuf Anime. The film’s plot is described as :

“In an attempt to rescue Bellri and the others, Dellensen launches an attack on the pirate corps’s Megafauna. Bellri, forced into space combat in Earth orbit, fails to realize he is facing his former instructor and shoots him down with the G-Self. Meanwhile, the Capital Army demands the return of the G-Self and Raraiya Monday, and deploys first the Mask team’s Elf Bullocks and then Becker’s Wuxia team. Behind the scenes, a crisis is developing which will drive them all to violate the taboos of SU-Cordism–the existence of a threat from space.”
