France’s Japan Expo is an annual event that celebrates Japanese culture. This year the event was held from July 4th(Thursday) to the 7th(Sunday) at Parc des Expositions de Paris-Nord-Villepinte in Villepinte.
The event also commemorated its 20th anniversary this year and Gundam creator Yoshiyuki Tomino served as Guest of Honor; the director attended panels, a master class, and signings. Japan Expo was also the venue of the world premiere of the first installment of Tomino’s recompilation film for Gundam Reconguista in G, “Go! Core Fighter!”.
The screening room for the film was crowded and received a standing ovation after the film concluded. Yoshiyuki Tomino answered questions from avid fans and thanked the audience.
Gundam Info portal site reports that the recompilation film will be a five part series that will begin release in 2019.
Gundam Reconguista in G celebrated the Gundam franchise’s 35th anniversary, and marked the return of Tomino as chief director of an original Gundam series since Turn A Gundam. After a theatrical premiere of the first three episodes in August 2014, the anime premiered on Japanese television in October 2014. The recompilation film was officially announced as part of the Gundam 40th Anniversary projects last November, newly edited with new scenes.
