Bandai Hobby Division recently held their project presentation for the 40th Anniversary of Gunpla. The basis of the presentation is the Gunpla Link Project, a multifaceted program compromising Link The Future, Link The Fun, Link Town, Link Creators, and Link Other Fields.
Two new Gundam Build entries were announced a part of the Link Creators segment, Gundam Build Divers Series -Battlogue-(tentative) and a Live Action version of the Gundam Build series by director Katsuyuki Motohiro(Psycho Pass, Ajin), an avid Gunpla fan. Motohiro spoke :
“Congratulations on the 40th anniversary of Gunpla! I have been involved in planning as a Gunpla supporter in various ways. Last time, I joined the coloring project, but finally, I will express my love for Gunpla in the form of a movie at the timing of its 40th anniversary. I have enjoyed making Gunpla since I was a child, but my passion has never faded away! We are working hard to share that feeling with everyone, so please look forward to it.”
The Build Divers Battlogue series will feature fan voted Gunpla battles from the “Gunpla Big Vote” to be held on the 40th Anniversary webpage in April and the Live Action Gundam Build video, tentatively titled “New Gundam Build Series” will serve as the commemorative video for the Gunpla 40th Anniversary. Neither project were given a release window.
Gundam Build Divers Re: RISE 2nd Season will be streamed every Thursday at 20:00 JST beginning April 9th through their official YouTube channels Gundam Channel for Japanese viewers and Gundam Info for international viewers. The series will be airing on TOKYO MX every Tuesday at 22:29 JST beginning April 28, and BS11 every Saturday at 19:00 JST starting April 11. A new trailer for the upcoming season was screened during the Gunpla 40th Anniversary Project presentation, then subsequently officially released online.
Official synopsis:
A beam of light, fired from an orbital satellite at the end of their fierce battle, forced Hiroto and his teammates to face the possibility that the planet Eldora where they have been battling doesn’t just exist within the network game Gunpla Battle Online (GBN), but is part of the real world. For a time, this realization brought the Build Divers to a halt.
However, their bond with Freddie and the other people of Eldora, who fought with them against the One-eyes, brings Hiroto, Kazami, May, and Parviz back together again. To find Masaki Shido, the Diver whose consciousness is still trapped on Eldora… To discover the true nature of Alus, the mysterious leader of the One-eyes… And most of all, to save Freddie and their other precious comrades. There is still a remaining “mission” they must clear on Eldora. With the power of their newly built Gunpla, the true battle of the second Build Divers will now begin.
In 2017 Sunrise released Gundam Build Fighters: Battlogue , a five episode ONA series featuring “dream battles” with various characters and Gunpla from the Gundam Build Fighters and Gundam Build Fighters Try series.
