Anime streaming service Crunchyroll has announced they will be simulcasting Mobile Suit Gundam THE ORIGIN: Advent of the Red Comet, the TV recompilation of the six Mobile Suit Gundam THE ORIGIN installments that screened from 2015 through 2018 by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko.

LUNA SEA will perform the opening theme songs, “Sora no Uta ~HIGHER and HIGHER~” and “Hisobi”, while the ending themes will be performed by Aina the End, GLIM SPANKY, KOM_I, and Miwa. The first ending theme will be a rendition of “Encounter”(Meguriai) from the 1982 compilation film Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in Space, performed by the duo GLIM SPANKY. The remaining three ending themes will be surprise announcements made at a later date.

The anime will begin release April 28.

The tragic story of Char Aznable, the ace pilot known as the Red Comet, and his sister Sayla Mass unfolds against the backdrop of the events leading to the One Year War. The Zabi family’s rise to power, the birth of the Principality of Zeon, the early days of famous aces such as Ramba Ral and the Black Tri-Stars, the development of the revolutionary new weapon known as the mobile suit, and the road to war against the Earth Federation are all depicted onscreen for the first time.

  1. Here’s to hoping they make more Origin if this version is successful! It seems Yas and his team wanted to animate the entire thing, and I really wonder why Sunrise wouldn’t fund them. Maybe the OVAs didn’t sell well? Perhaps if the TV anime turns a good profit they’ll give more episodes a chance.
